Meet the Team: Wayland Kelley

"I was here six months after F.I.R.S.T. opened, we did everything, worked on the trucks, janitorial work, we did it all..." said today's featured team member Mr. Wayland Kelley. As the years go by the company has grown, but it has done well because of people like Mr. Kelley. It takes a willingness to get in and do what needs to be done, no matter the job title.

Mr. Kelley has been with the Houston Fire Department for 21 years, an instructor for 12 years, and he has a wealth of experience to draw from. When we get word back on how a rescue class went, most students remark on how practical Kelley has made the class. They appreciate the real life experience he brings to the table and how he gives his students dignity, even as some maybe learning something for the first time. It's obvious he cares about the people he is instructing.

We could go on and on about the many things we appreciate about Mr. Wayland Kelley, all we can say now is we are grateful to have you on our team. And are appreciative of the good example you set for us all. Thank you Mr. Kelley!

Interview:

What do you appreciate about F.I.R.S.T.?: "I appreciate the opportunity it gives guys who have a desire to work and be team players. Wherever they may come from, some even broken homes, its brought people into a family environment. People feel like someone cares about them. Whether its in the office, some supervisor's, and even me or other instructors, we show we care about one another."

Outside of work what's most important to you?: "Family my wife, my kids. Being a Father who works a lot, but is still able to come home and have the love, support and respect of my family."

From The Team:

"He is very sincere, always wanting to help someone. He goes the extra mile. He loves his family and keeps his faith strong. Always smiling!" - Cissy Finley

" There's so much to say, I guess I've worked with him for the last ten years or more. He is one of the top instructors here. He is in high demand and is highly respected by fireman and FIRST employee's. He can be my wing-man anyday!" - Brady Devereaux
