Meet The Team: Jose Torres

A willingness to learn and grow, to be teachable, at times, or perhaps more often than not, is more valuable than knowing it all. When people apply at F.I.R.S.T. and are going through training, they find out right away, that while it is good to have experience, a person must be willing to learn the way F.I.R.S.T. performs a rescue. Because if they can do that, they will fit well with any team they are placed on.
So why the long statement about learning, and being teachable? Because today's featured employee Jose Torres, is a model example of this.
You may remember a previous article about Christian Torres, this is Jose's older brother. I still remember the day he was hired. The two brothers Christian and Jose walked in all smiles. Christian was happy to have his little brother working with us. The two not only look the same, but they both have a great disposition, they're always smiling and so well mannered. One supervisor said that the only fault he could find with Jose is "He apologizes too much". Not really a fault at all.
Jose works on our rescue teams out of the Port Neches, Beaumont office, they are a tight knit group, with personalities like Jose on the team, they work well together. When Jose and the team come to Deer Park, it's always a pleasure to have positive, humble people like Jose around. He always has the hugest smile and is ready to work.
Jose we would like to thank you for setting such a good example in being teachable, helpful and kind!
Interview
What do you appreciate about F.I.R.S.T.?: " What i appreciate about FIRST is that they gave me a chance to make something of myself, they didn’t care if I had experience or not. I walked in that first day of training not knowing a darn thing about rescue and now I’m a supervisor taking on my own jobs expanding my knowledge day by day. I am truly grateful for all the opportunities my brother and I have been given while working for F.I.R.S.T."
Outside of work what is important to you?: "My family is what’s important to me, they have always been next to me every step of the way, also the friendships I’ve made along the way, new and old. And last but definitely no least everyone else that is waiting for me back home. "
From The Team
"Jose is a very smart individual, that adapts quickly to his surroundings. He absorbs knowledge like a sponge. He's learning more in the medical field and thinking of joining the fire department. He's like a son to me. I feel like I need to teach him things, and I want the best for him. He's a dedicated hard worker, and I'm not being biased because he's my brother he's a smart cat. There's never a dull moment with him." - Christian Torres
"He shows initiative, he's eager to learn and is a hard worker. He observes others and does his best help guide them. He's taught me a lot. He's a good co-worker and friend." -Adrian Figueroa
