"I was at a crossroads in life, I never felt like I would be a firefighter. A buddy of mine got an application to join the fire department and wanted me to sign up with him. I wouldn't. He was persistent, I signed the forms and the rest is history. "
And so began John's career in the Houston Fire Department where he worked with men like Logan Reininger, Brady Devereaux, and Wayland Kelley. It makes sense that he would join F.I.RS.T.'s team. John states:
"F.I.R.S.T.'s culture from the start, was a place where individuals with experience, could pass that information on to others, being our employee's or clients. It has allowed me to share my experience and also to learn from others. It was in 1975 that I became a Christian and that was a turning point in my life. I know I never traveled until I had a spiritual change in my life. It enabled me to go on missions and do humanitarian work. In the fire department I would travel to South America and offer to train the local fire departments. What these travels have taught me is to be thankful for what you have and appreciate ones who have shared their life lessons with you. What's important in my life now is family and what I can give back to the community."
John would return from his travels with a bag full of exotic candies and remedies. I remember one day he stopped by the office, and had a swab of Royal Jelly, a South American remedy that comes from worker bee's. He said "Its maggots and honey, it's really good for you!" Like I said, you never know what John might show up with. John certainly adds to the legacy that F.I.R.S.T. is creating. We would like to thank you for sharing your experiences and for all that you do!
